This chart displays the total distance of your assets/drivers for a specified date range as well as the average distance per asset/driver per day, the average trips per asset/driver per day, and the average distance per trip by asset/driver.
Activate the Fleet Utilization organization goal under the Organization goals to see these charts on the dashboard.
Click on the image to view it in full screen if the article is open in your browser:
- Click Measure.
- Under Insights, click Dashboards.
- Complete the selection criteria:
- Choose the organization you want to view.
- Make sure you are on the Dashboards page.
- Select your date range by clicking on the drop-down list and then choose last month, last week, etc.
- Choose how you want to view your date selection, e.g. you can choose to view "This Quarter" in the first dropdown and then click the next drop-down list and select by month of year, etc.
- Choose whether you want to view data by assets or drivers by clicking the relevant button.
- Click the filter button (see example below) to choose how you want to view the groups in your organization and whether you want to reduce the number of sites or assets/drivers that should be displayed. You can also indicate how you want the results to be displayed, e.g. worst to best, etc.
Click the info icon "i" to see the difference between detailed and simplified view. Click it again to remove the information box. Detailed - This option allows you to dive deep into the chart hierarchy, providing a comprehensive and in-depth analysis. Simplified - This alternative offers a streamlined perspective, focusing solely on the highest and lowest levels of data, making it ideal for a quick and concise overview. This is available when viewing information on an organization-level.
- To only view information by sites, click the relevant option and check the boxes next to the sites you want to include in the charts (up to a maximum of 250 charts). This is available to users with site-level permissions. If you only have site-level permissions you will not be able to see the organization-level view.
10. Select the Fleet Utilization (Default) page from the list of dashboards or select a custom dashboard if you created one.
Note that if a site or asset does not have any recorded information for the time period, it will not be displayed on the chart.
- Scroll to the MANAGE FLEET UTILIZATION - km/mi and trip insights or engine hours and trip insights dashboard widget.
- Choose if you want to view the distance or engine hours by clicking on the settings icon at the top right of the chart
- You can also choose to view the chart by the total assets or drivers for the selected date range or view only the active assets or drivers by checking the relevant box in the settings.
- Exclude certain days by clicking on the settings icon. Say for instance that you selected the last three months in the date criteria at the top and opted to exclude Saturdays and Sundays in the chart, it will be excluded from the data returned for this chart.
- You will now see the total distance in miles or kilometres (or total engine hours) displayed at the top, the average distance per asset per day, the average trips per asset per day, and the average distance per trip by asset. These values can also be shown by driver. Click on any of these values or icons to view more information. Also, note that the averages will be on engine hours if that is what you selected in the settings.
- The second level chart shows information by date range based on what you selected in the criteria.
- Click on any of the bars to view additional data by organization group, site, and asset or driver.
- Click the Back button at the top of the widget to return to the previous view:
- Take a screenshot of the graph by hovering over the graph and clicking the Take a snapshot button.
Explaining the calculations of the metrics seen on this chart:
The explanations below assume the charts are displayed by the total assets or drivers as the default in settings. If the settings were changed to show results for the active assets or drivers the calculations will be on active values instead of total.
• Average distance per asset/driver per day = Take total distance for the specified date period and divide it by the total number of assets/drivers in the organization and then divide again by the number of days in the specified date period.
So for example, if there were 15000 miles and 25 drivers and my date range was last month (say it was September 2023) and no days were excluded, then the calculation works like this:
(15000/25)/30 = 20 miles per driver per day
• Average trips per asset/driver per day = Using the same values as the above example and there were 4523 trips then we take the total trips divided by the number of drivers and divide by the number of days and the calculation is this:
(4523/25)/30 = 6,03 trips per driver per day
• Average distance per trip by driver/asset = Here we take total distance divided by total trips so in this example it will be:
15000/4523 = 3,32
NB NOTE: If you exclude days it will affect the number of days in the calculation.
