You can specify whether an event must be flagged as an active event.
Active events are monitored in Live tracking and the Info Hub and also by creating event notifications.
It is important to note that active events are only stored short term so it is advised to also set the event to record if it needs to be stored and visible in the system in the long-term.
Recorded events are stored and visible in the system long-term. Recorded events can be monitored in Historical tracking, Trip timeline, and event-related Insight reports.
TIP: Active messages should only be used in cases where an event occurrence (such as a panic button being pressed) requires an immediate or real-time response by a live monitoring system. The processing cost and overhead of active messages are very high and unless they are being consumed immediately, there is no point in sending them.
Open the specific event in the Event library:
- Click Manage.
- Under Config admin, click Libraries / Templates.
You can make the change on the library level and cascade it to various Event templates or you can make the change for a specific device or site on the event template.
- Click the event name to view all the settings.
- Scroll down to the Active section.
- Check the box next to Send active message. This will send an active message notifying that the event has occurred. Check this box if you want to view the event in Live tracking, Info Hub, and to receive event notifications if the event occurs.
-
You can specify a delay, which is a certain time that the event must be true before a message is sent by entering the hours, minutes or seconds below Queue after a delay of. This delay is independent of the recording delay under the recording events section.
-
You can choose that the event must be sent when condition becomes true or to be sent when condition is no longer true – the delay period begins immediately if the event becomes true or no longer true, depending on what is selected.
-
You can choose when the message must be sent by selecting one of the following priorities:
-
Normal - The message will be sent when the message buffer is full.
-
Urgent - The queued message will be sent immediately. Any normal priority messages that have been queued will be sent at the same time.
-
Critical (Limited) - The message will be sent immediately using any available transport, including satellite, and adhere to the daily message limits. Mobile device will surface if required.
-
Critical - The message will be sent immediately using any available transport, including satellite and ignore any daily message limits. Mobile device will surface if required.
-
Emergency - The message will be sent immediately using ALL available transport channels, including satellite, and ignore any daily message limits. Mobile device will surface if required. Duplicate active events will be shown in the system.

-
Check the box next to Send current position in message if the message should include GPS position information. Select this if you want to plot the events on the trail in Live tracking.
-
Check the box Enable active tracking while the condition is true if the asset should be actively tracked and position information will be sent at regular intervals while the event condition is true.
-
Specify the delay duration time that the event must be true before active tracking starts, under tracking delay.
-
The tracking interval is the interval at which the active tracking messages are to be sent while the event condition is true and if the setting to enable active tracking is selected.
- Click Save.
