- Choose Tax reports under report category.
The IFTA State Miles report allows users to extract the miles driven per asset per state for the selected date period in order to assist with tax rebates based on usage between the various states in the United States of America. This report is only available and applicable to US organizations operating within North America.
Please note that the report is based on trips. If you compare this report to the Trip reports, make sure that you have not excluded calculations, which will exclude sub-trips from the report.

Additional Settings
- You can choose to include or exclude calculated odometer values for state line crossings and road type changes. Optional columns are available to display the number of calculations where suspicious odometer values occurred. Choose Yes to exclude calculations.
These calculations are where a suspect odometer reading was observed and where it was corrected automatically based on the trip distance and proportion of the trip duration. If you choose Yes, to exclude calculations it means that all sub-trips will be removed from the report where a manual calculation was made. The implication of this is that the report distance will not be consistent with what is displayed on the Trip reports as it has now deliberately been specified to exclude these corrections.
If you select No, include calculations, the sub-trips will still be displayed in the report and you can view the actual number of these calculations per asset, per state in each row.
If the calculation was due to State Line Crossing odometers being anomalous, the total will be displayed in the optional column, "Calculated SLC Odo Reading". If the road type change odometer was anomalous, it will be counted and displayed in the optional column, "Calculated Road Type Change Odo". See below for an example:
Columns
This report provides a default selection of columns and numerous additional optional columns which can be selected. This allows a user to design the report to include only data important to their operations.
The report displays a Report Criteria summary at the top of the page. This summary will provide visible detail of the selection criteria used in the report.

- Asset ID
- Registration Number
- State
- Date Entered
- Date Exited
- Elapsed Duration
- Start Odo (mi)
- End Odo (mi)
- Distance (mi)
Optional
- Fuel Entered (gal)
- Odo Reset Difference (mi)
- Off Road Driving (mi)
- Off Road Idle (duration)
- On Road Driving (mi)

- Registration Number
- SLC and Road Type Calculated Odos - "Calculated SLC Odo Reading" and "Calculated Road Type Change Odo". These columns show the number of calculated odometer and distance values for each line. If the calculation was due to State Line Crossing odometer values being anomalous, it will be counted and displayed in "Calculated SLC Odo Reading". If the Road Type Change odometer was anomalous it will be displayed in "Calculated Road Type Change Odo". You can sort on these columns to determine which vehicles are giving the most problematic odometer readings. If the columns are selected but a user opted to exclude calculations, the system will simply display zero's.

More information on anomalous odometer values
Odometer readings are potentially incorrect due to odometer resets in and out of trips. To correct this, the report will calculate distances for sub-trips that have anomalous odometer readings by using the total trip distance (as recorded by the unit) and the proportion of the total trip time in the sub-trip. See below for a depiction:
Anomalous odometer values replaced by calculated values
Where the database returns odometer readings that are outside the trip’s first and trip’s last odometer range or where a second sub-trip’s odometer readings are smaller than a first subtrip’s readings, these odometer values are replaced by a calculated value based on the most recent correct reading and the calculated distance as mentioned above.
Date Entered and Exited
Some trips, during which a state line crossing event occurred, might span a day(s) before and after the selected date range of the report. However, the parts of the trips that did not occur during the report date range will not be included. To exclude these, the Date Entered and/or Date Exited will be replaced with the report start and/or report end date respectively and the distance driven will be calculated as explained above.
