The MiX 4000 and MiX 6000 was designed to be backward compatible with all the existing CAN scripts that can run on an FM3xxx Communicator. It however supports a new feature where a user can select the fuel source, e.g. from CAN or from a pulse input like the EDM fuel flow meter. This feature is not supported on an FM3xxx and in order to make it configurable, another Fuel line was added to the Mobile Device Template (see Figure 1).
Figure 1 - Fuel Line for MiX 4000
On this Fuel line, you can now configure if the fuel must come from the CAN script or from another device. In order to present these options, it means that all CAN scripts that can support fuel must be identified as such by a new “Fuel Device” in the header of the script. When a CAN script supports this, it will look like the example in Figure 2:
The fact that this is a new feature that can only be added to a new script – means that all scripts that are already loaded on your server and in use, will NOT show this setting.
The only way to make this setting visible on old scripts is to log a SR# with the DBA’s and ask them to reload the script. The action of re-loading old scripts to the database will automatically insert this fuel device in the script. |

The following few points should be kept in mind when you configure a unit:
- FM3xxx never had this setting, so any script with this setting or without this setting will still work on an FM3xxx communicator.
- The “default” fuel device is CAN, therefore even if you configure “Not connected” on the Fuel line for a MiX 4000 you should get the correct fuel values. The ONLY exception is if another fuel device is configured (for example EDM on a Frequency Input), then the two fuel values will interfere with each other and fuel will be reported incorrectly.
- If it is a new CAN script or a CAN script that was reloaded to add the “Allow CAN Fuel” setting, the checkbox must be ticked, otherwise the config will not read the fuel from the script.
- All the scripts that were developed and loaded before the release of MiX 4000 will not have the “Allow CAN Fuel” setting.
- New scripts that are developed after the release of MiX 4000 will only have the “Allow CAN Fuel” setting if the script actually supports fuel.
- The only way to get the “Allow CAN Fuel” setting on an old script is to ask the Database Administrators (DBA) to reload the script.
