The MiX 4000 and MiX 6000 supports dual scriptable CAN, which means you are able to connect CAN scripts on the C1 as well as C2 ports.
This solution is dependent on FW 4.8 and units should be upgraded in order to make use of this. It is important to note that you should not connect CAN scripts that contain the same parameters as the system does not cater for this.
Use Cases
Mobileye – Light Vehicles
Mobileye connected to light vehicles send data via a dedicated CAN port. Previously when connecting Mobileye you could only get ADAS events and no other CAN information.
With two CAN ports you are able to connect one port to Mobileye and the other to the vehicle.
This also means that you can monitor Mobileye events for any type of vehicle irrespective if it uses Custom/OBDII or a J1939 CAN interface.
Mobileye – Heavy Vehicles
Mobileye connected to heavy vehicles transmit data on the vehicle CAN bus. Previously this meant that each custom J1939 script had to be modified to include Mobileye data.
When making use of the second CAN and the script as described in the use case above, it means none of our standard and custom J1939 scripts have include Mobileye data.
Other CAN devices
The same is true for other CAN devices such as:
- Continental Tire Pressure System
- Thermo King Temperatures
- Nitro/Solar powered refrigerated systems
Heavy Vehicles – Different CAN buses for different parameters
On some heavy vehicles the Speed and RPM is not on the same CAN bus as Odometer or Fuel. This means that when using a single CAN script we cannot get all the information required. With 2 CAN ports, you can run two different scripts on each port and in doing so get all the required data from the vehicle.
It is important to note that you should NOT connect CAN scripts that contain the same parameters as the system was not built to cater for this and there are currently no measures implemented to prevent this.
Please request that new scripts be created, per the usual process, if you require scripts that do not contain clashing parameters.
Connecting CAN scripts to C2
Pre-requisites
- Ensure FW 4.8 is loaded to the unit.
- Ensure that you have made the required scripts available in the Peripheral library.
- Ensure that you have selected to “Load peripherals” from the Mobile device template.
Mobile device template
- On the Mobile device template navigate to the C2 line.
- Click on the “Not connected”.
- Select the required script from the dropdown list.
- Save the changes.
Event library
Create events that will be monitored using the parameters available in the script that you have connected on the C2 line.
Event template
Add these events to your event template.
Configuration groups
Navigate back to the Configuration group.
Compile and upload the configuration - only if FW version 4.8 or later is used will the compile be successful. If an older version is used, the compile will fail.
