MiX Fleet Manager makes use of role-based security. The permissions to perform certain operations or functions are assigned to specific roles. Users are assigned particular roles, and through those role assignments acquire the permissions to perform particular functions within the MiX Telematics software.
Since users are not assigned permissions directly, but only acquire them through their role (or roles), management of individual user rights becomes a matter of simply assigning appropriate roles to the user's account or to a security group. Roles do not give access to assets or drivers.
How to access the roles landing page:
- Click Manage.
- Under User Admin, click Roles.
The Roles are listed in alphabetical order and can be sorted by clicking on the specific heading by which you want to sort the list.
There are five columns available on this page:
Name - Indicates the name of the role, e.g. "Asset update access".
Shared - Displays the number of groups the role is shared across.
Modules - Displays how many modules the role allow access to i.e. Fleet Admin, Config Admin etc.
Features - Displays how many features the role allows access to.
Permissions - This is a high level view of what the role allows in terms of create, read, update and delete:
- Red - role does not allow any access to that permission across all modules and features.
- Amber - role provides access for that permission in at least one module or feature.
- Green - role provides full access for that permission across ALL modules and features.
These columns can be removed and added back as required:
- Click on the column selector located on the far right in the header row.
- Click on the column name that needs to be added or removed - A check next to the column name confirms that the column is selected.
Using the roles filter
The filter on the landing page provides a quick view on how many users are allocated per role profile. Click on the tabs to view. The filters available will depend on the permissions allocated to the user.
The filters on the left is a broader default profile tag to help users identify their type of roles.
