This location entry and exit event will check both points and generate if an asset or driver has driven through or has been in the selected locations. i.e. started or stopped in the location.
The event was created to replace the use of the Drive-Through report where users monitor movements through locations and instead is now available in all Event reports.
When investigating historical movements through a newly created location (thus a location that has been created retrospectively for the sole purpose of investigating an incident), the Location Analyser tool should be used as the server-side event only generates from the date it was created with the specified location.
The event will display the duration spent in the location (calculated between the first recorded position within the location and the first recorded position outside the location), as well as the max GPS speed that occurred within the location.
If no positions were recorded within the location, but a location is detected in between the outlying positions via a straight line, then the duration will be from the first position outside the location on both sides.
Note that the event will generate regardless of whether the asset or driver just drove through the location or whether they stopped/started in the location.
As with all server-side events, events can be missed if the location is small and the AVL frequency is long. Additional logic has been added for this event in cases where a possible intersect is detected. See the diagram and explanation below.
This new server-side event will trigger for FM units but because it is a passive event, it will only display in Trip timeline, Insight reporting and Historical tracking and will not display in Live tracking, Info hub and the notifications. The event will display as per normal in Live tracking, Info hub and the notifications as well as on the Trip timeline, in Insight reporting, and in Historical tracking for the MiX 2000, MiX 4000, and MiX 6000 unit types.
Rule – The location entry and exit event is calculated by using the first position within the location and the first position outside the location to calculate the duration. See the graphical explanation below.
Typical Event Description – Location entry and exit.
Returned Value - Location Name and max speed as well as other info like duration.
Additional logic:
Note: Duration will be calculated from the first position received within the location to the first position received outside of the location. If no positions were recorded in the location due to a long time lapse between locations recorded, but a straight line between positions indicates a possible intersection with a location, the following will apply:
Setting it up
- Select "Location entry and exit", on the third tab, called, Events.
- Now select the relevant location/s that must be used to evaluate the rule. Note - The option to select all the locations is not provided as this could cause undesired system performance if not used cautiously.
