MiX Telematics enables the recording of over speeding events and these can be driven by a number of different speed limit sources.
Fixed Speed
Fixed speed is a speed value, which when exceeded by the asset will trigger an over speeding event. These limits are stored on the on-board computer (OBC) and the asset’s speed is referenced against this limit second by second.
Posted Speed Limits
Posted speed limits correspond to the speed limit signs visible on the road to drivers. Posted speed limits are stored on the server. The asset’s speed is referenced against the posted speed limits stored on the server with each AVL received, as well as at the end of every trip when the passive trail is downloaded.
Location Speed Limits
Location speed limits are speed limits associated to geo-fenced areas or otherwise knows as locations in MiX Fleet Manager. These locations and their associated speed limits can be stored on the on-board computer. This data is referenced every second by the on-board computer and compared to the asset’s speed.
Within the MiX Telematics system a fleet of assets can be measured against one or all of these speed limit sources depending on the customer requirements.
